IEEE STUDENTS’ BRANCH – SNIST

       IEEE SNIST
TEN YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

IEEE-SNIST was founded 10 years ago by a group of zealous budding engineers under the guidance of our beloved Director and a few eminent faculty members, with the idea of bringing technology closer and more meaningful to the student community. And after all these years, we can say that, not only has the primary purpose of the Students‟ Branch been achieved, but it has also found a way to harness the leadership skills of its members.

"ADASTRA", the techno-management fest is conducted from 10 Years i.e. from the inception of student branch in 2000 by the Students‟ Branch members, takes a shot at the organizational skills of the members and give us hands-on experience on team-work and event management. We, at IEEE-SNIST, LEARN together, WORK together and thus GROW together.

The IEEE Students‟ Branch of SNIST won the Vibrant Students’ Branch Award at the Asia-Pacific International Student Congress by IEEE

(Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), to mark its 125th anniversary held from July 16th to 19th, 2009 at the National University of Singapore. Aimed at finding a new set of student leaders, who will contribute immensely, both to IEEE and to its stated objective of technological advancements in the years to come, it was also a platform where one could learn from one another and utilize the congress as a platform for exposure to new ideas, practices, discourse and relationships.
  • IEEE-SNIST won SGD100 (100 Singaporean dollars) for Poster Presentation and SNIST won the Vibrant Student Branch Award. “It was like a dream come true. We hope to conduct a Conference like this very soon in SNIST”.
 Sessions
·         IEEE Sessions are held on every Friday from 4.30pm to 6.30 pm
·         It is mainly divided into 2 parts: Technical part which include Project review, Technical ppts, web designing else
·          Non tech part involves how can one improve one’s skills
      IEEE Member ship:
There are about 200 members in IEEE-SNIST student’s branch.  IEEE provides online registration. Members ship plays an important role because of its benefits.
      Benefits of IEEE member ship:
  • INTERN SHIP: By Microsoft, IBM and many others exclusively for IEEE members.
  • Projects: IEEE provides the base for various technical projects.
  • IEEE TV: Internet-based broadcasting network delivering special-interest programming about technology and engineering
  • IEEE Member net: An exclusive benefit of membership, IEEE’s online membership directory connects member worldwide.
  • Microsoft Software Offer for IEEE students
  • IEEE Xplore: Delivering full text access to the World’s highest quality technical Literature in engineering and technology
Presidents' Change the World Competition
The IEEE Presidents’ Change the World Competition recognizes and rewards students who identify a real-world problem and apply engineering, science, computing, and leadership skills to solve it. The contest offers students the perfect opportunity to have their ingenuity and enthusiasm for engineering and technology recognized by prestigious IEEE members around the globe.
The submission deadline is 31 January 2011.
2011 IEEE Computer Society Simulator Design Competition
IEEE Computer Society is presenting the 2011 Simulator Design Competition for students worldwide with a top prize of U.S. $8,000 and a second place prize of U.S. $2,000. Student teams will be invited to design a CPU simulator, a program used in many architecture courses to illustrate how computers work.  The competition requires that students have taken a course in architecture and have both programming and software engineering skills.
